Hartsell Named MCAA South of 40 Committee Co-Chairman

Brandon Hartsell Appointed to MCAA South of 40 Committee

By

Brandon J. Hartsell, CMP, Project Manager with Gates Construction Company, Inc. (Mooresville, N.C.), has been appointed to the position of MCAA South of 40 Committee Co-chairman.

Brandon is Central Region Vice President of the North Carolina Masonry Contractors Association and President of the Local NCMCA Metrolina Chapter. The North Carolina Masonry Contractors Association (NCMCA) has just approved the formation of a new subgroup that will focus on the young professional. Similar to the MCAA’s South of 40 program, the core mission of this group will be to provide members the opportunity to learn, become more involved, and introduce a youthful voice into the masonry industry.

While vocational programs and various masonry competitions around the country involve the younger generation, there has been very little effort to include those aged 20–40 in monthly meetings, conventions and board meetings. Brandon Hartsell is leading this effort in his region. Hartsell believes we need to develop lasting relationships with younger people, encourage their new ideas and educate the leaders of tomorrow. “In this way,” he said, “the masonry industry will be as solid as the products we promote. If we do not scout the talent and attract a younger generation to this business, how do we ensure it will still be strong in 30 years?”

Gates Construction is one of the largest non-union masonry contractors’ in the USA. In 1969, Charles B. Gates began Gates Construction Company, Inc. as a general contracting business. The company performed commercial and industrial construction in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Upon his death in 1980, Gates Construction ceased as a general contractor. The company was reactivated in 1989 by his son, Robert H Gates, as a masonry contractor. Gates Construction has experienced tremendous growth from 10 employees to 400 employees today. Currently, Gates Construction Company, Inc. performs 20-30 million in volume throughout North Carolina and South Carolina.

The Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and our members welcome Brandon to his new role.
