By

The Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) announced the election of officers to the MCAA Board during the MCAA Annual Meeting on January 23, 2014 during the MCAA Convention at the World of Concrete/World of Masonry in Las Vegas.

Mark Kemp, President and CEO of Superior Masonry Builders, Inc. in Butler, Wisc. was elected as Chairman of the MCAA. Mark has been in the construction business since the late 1960’s. He started as a yard employee and worked for Superior during his college years. In 1973 he started a brick washing company called Badger Brickwashers, cleaning brick for various mason contractors. This gave him practical business knowledge while attending UW-M and majoring in Business Administration. He graduated from UW-M in 1975 with a Business Degree and proceeded to work for Superior Masonry as Secretary-Treasurer. While running the office, he soon took over running the concrete division and then the masonry division. In 1982 he took over full control of Superior Masonry Builders, becoming President and acting as CEO. This growing up through the ranks is what helps solidify the office and the field.

“The MCAA is back on solid ground, committed to serving its members to the highest degree,” said Kemp. “Together, we can accomplish great things for our industry.“

The Vice Chairman for the MCAA is Michael Sutter, CEO of Sutter Masonry, Inc. in El Mirage, Ariz. Mike first began his career in masonry while a senior in high school in Brunswick, Ohio, a small suburb south of Cleveland. After working for Fyffe Masonry for 10 years as a journeyman, he started his own masonry company, Sutter Masonry, in 1991 beginning with residential and offsite projects and eventually into commercial projects. Mike has been very involved on both the local and national levels in the masonry industry. He is a past president and on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Masonry Contractors Association and also on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Masonry Guild.

Serving as Treasurer is Paul Odom, Vice President of P and S Masonry, Inc. in Hamilton, Texas. Paul started his masonry career in 1980 as a laborer for Lee Masonry, based out of Hamilton, Texas. He quickly advanced in the company, going through his apprenticeship and becoming a journeyman mason. From there, he ran a few jobs and was moved into the office to learn estimating. He left the company in 1986 before officially starting P and S Masonry in 1987, alongside his wife, Susie, who is still active in the company. Their company was also based in Hamilton and served the central Texas area. Their business started small, concentrating on military construction and has grown throughout the last 25 years to excel in school, university, commercial, and industrial construction. Additionally, Paul has been active in promoting the masonry industry over the years. He was one of the founders of the Central Texas Masonry Contractors Association and has twice served as president of this association. He has been on the board of the Texas Masonry Contractors for several years, serving as vice president and president during that time. At the national level, he has been active as the Legislative Chair of the MCAA for a number of years and looks forward to soon serving the association as treasurer.

Joining the MCAA Board as Secretary is Paul Oldham, Project Manager/Estimator for Ollier Masonry Inc. in Batesville, Ind. Paul has 14 years of engineering and construction experience. Before joining the team at Ollier Masonry Inc. in 2006, Paul worked for both construction and engineering firms. He has experience in retail, commercial, healthcare, and industrial projects. The past several years he has worked as a project manager on many large public projects in the Midwest, including the Great American Ballpark and Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has worked on numerous school projects acting as the general contractor and also as a specialty contractor (masonry). He has also worked on numerous industrial projects including project engineer on the 1.5 million square foot Toyota Truck Plant in Princeton, Ind. Paul is active in numerous organizations in the Central Indiana Area and is currently on the Board of Directors for TMI (Tri-State Masonry Institute).

The MCAA also elected nine Regional Vice Presidents to the board:
