Project Description
The MC-1 Office Building at Oak Ridge Associated University (ORAU) is a 74,000 sf office building. The building houses executive management offices, a state of the art Education Technology Center and educational classrooms. High end interior finishes include maple trim and wall panels, glass hangrails, brick, and natural stone. This project was the first office building in Tennessee to achieve LEED Gold Certification in accordance with USGBC. Sustainable strategies include: Reduced water use with water efficient fixtures and native/drought resistant landscaping. Energy performance includes high efficiency HVAC system throughout the space. Building Lighting systems include “step” lighting controlled by a combination of time switches, outdoor photoelectric sensors, occupancy sensors improve energy efficiency. Construction waste management program to divert construction waste from landfills. Use of materials that were regionally produced and incorporate recycled content.
