Durham, NC
Mason Contractor:

Architect:
Zimmer-Gunsul-Frasca Partnership
Project Description
The new Center for Interdisciplinary Engineering, Medicine and Applied Sciences (CIEMAS) at Duke University more than doubles the Pratt School of Engineering's teaching and research space.
The 330,000 square foot facility was carefully designed to enhance and blend with the classical elements of Duke's historic west campus. Brick masonry was selected for the bulk of the project because of the material's design flexibility and essence of permanence. All of the concrete masonry units and rigid insulation are made from recycled material, making CIEMAS Duke University's first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project.
