"Cotswold" by Busch

St. Louis, MO

2014 MCAA TEAM Awards Winner

Mason Contractor: Spencer Brickwork, Inc.
Architect: Roentz Homes
General Contractor: Dick Busch Architects
Suppliers: Earthworks
Owner: Roentz Homes

Project Description

The owner did not want a formal or elaborate look on this 15,000 square foot home. Dick Busch, the architect, suggested an English Countryside theme. The rambling shape of the house (and patios) was the result of site, view, and maintaining privacy from the neighbor to the south.

The general restraint of the "Cotswold" style and its elegant simplicity were well suited to the site as well as the client.

The entrance and rear balconies have large carved stone archways overlooking six different levels of outdoor patios and walkways.

There are five oversize stone fireplaces with red herringbone fireboxes contained in four chimneys ranging from forty two to forty eight feet tall, topped with large deco clay pots. One fireplace has a thirty-four hundred pound one piece hearth that is a natural ledge stone the builder picked out of a hillside vein of stone.

There are many stone and brick walls throughout the interior of the home, lending to its Old World look. There are some modern features, including a ten car garage and a two lane bowling alley.

Three hundred and twenty tons of Wisconsin limestone, thirty-two tons of flagstone and a trailer of large carved Indiana limestone pieces were required to complete this beautiful English Country Manor Estate.

Date of Project Completion: June 2012
