Project Description
On one city block with an old demolished building and an architect and owner ready to design a new structure in old San Antonio that would match the city’s existing architecture. Masonry was the product of choice because this building is surrounded by the splendor of masonry. Then durability was considered along with cost and once again masonry won out.
The design included brick, stone and CMU. The CMU was filled with rebar and grout to withstand the Texas wind and give strength where it was required. As the products were blended it became an amazing structure that looked right at home in downtown San Antonio.
As you walked inside the architect did not stop the beauty at the door but carried it into the interior. He designed with thin stone that was laid in the same pattern at the exterior. Then as you walked up to the information desk, masonry was used in the design and it circled the entire desk. Even with stone set on a radius there was no lipping of stone. The craftsmen put together a beautiful piece of art work.
Tight site, quick schedule, no accidents and masonry made the end user very happy.
