Project Description
Killeen, Texas is home to Fort Hood, the world's largest military installation. Audie Murphy MS is named in honor of America's most decorated veteran.
Safety concerns for students on-post had an impact on the design. Anti-terrorism measures are incorporated.
These safety features are unnoticed by those using the facility. Materials include brick, split-face CMU, and burnished CMU. The structural burnished masonry elements are rigid and precise, but visually pleasing. Bullnosed corners and brick sills imply a forgiving and nurturing learning atmosphere. The masonry between pilasters reinforces ideas of precise coordination, complimentary differing materials, and enduring beauty.
