This presentation will focus on the unique design considerations for cast-in-place housing including walls, decks (or floors) and roofs. Design with system in mind is critical to the success of the project. We will cover the aspects of designing a concrete home relative to the transition of thinking from convention wood-frame housing to concrete as the principle structure. We will look at a comparison of plans and the concept of seeking a “concrete home” plan versus understanding what is necessary in modifying any plan to a concrete structural system.
1. Describe the design concept of traditional wood-framed houses to concrete homes
2. Explain the conditions for a concrete home design than influence the result
3. Analyze house plans for configuration adjustments that fit a concrete home mindset
4. Identify the impact of concrete design codes and residential concrete codes that impact the project
