Suffolk Construction Appoints Skinner as Executive VP and GM, Mid-Atlantic Region

Stephen Skinner to oversee the management of projects and client relationships

By

Suffolk Construction, one of the most successful, privately held building contractors in the country, announces Stephen Skinner as the new Executive Vice President and General Manager for its Mid-Atlantic region. In this role, Skinner will lead the company’s Mid-Atlantic region and oversee the management of projects and client relationships. He will also head up all marketing and work acquisition efforts for the region. Skinner replaces Michael DiNapoli who is now the Chief Operating Officer for Suffolk’s new San Francisco office.

“Our Mid-Atlantic clients, subcontractors and local employees will greatly benefit from Steve’s knowledge of the local market and sharp business acumen. The Mid-Atlantic office is poised for significant growth and I am confident Steve is the right person to lead our company in the greater Washington, DC market,” said John Fish, Chairman and CEO of Suffolk Construction.

Skinner remarked: “It is a privilege to have been entrusted with this position at Suffolk Construction. I look forward to further expanding the company’s growth nationally and leading the extraordinary group of local employees who are committed to providing the highest level of expertise in construction management.”

Skinner has more than 30 years of experience and has executed more than $2 billion in contracts in the Mid-Atlantic region including large-scale projects for both the private and public sector. He has managed projects in sectors that include healthcare, residential, commercial office, life sciences, hospitality, retail, renovations and mixed-use construction. Before joining Suffolk, Skinner held executive positions at DPR Construction, Inc. and BE&K Building Group. Prior to those roles, he spent 20 years at Bovis Lend Lease where he rose to the level of Director of Operations for the Americas.

Skinner is an active member of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and the Washington Building Congress (WBC). He has also held leadership positions for several business and community associations including serving as Chairman of the Associated Builders and Contractors – Virginia Chapter General Contractors Council, Chairman of the National Capital Golf Classic, and Chairman of the local Kids Under Construction Board. As a member of Suffolk’s “National People Committee”, he provides strategic planning for the company’s community involvement and employee engagement initiatives.

Skinner received his Associates Degree in Architectural Engineering and Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction from Purdue University and attended the Executive Program at London Business School.
