The MCAA is pleased to announce that the ASTM standard definition of solid brick will NOT be changing as a result of the last vote at ASTM.
If the proposed changes had passed, you would have seen an increase in the void size for C-216 brick go from 25% to an allowable 30%. Besides the confusion caused in the design community, there were other related concerns cited such as increased mortar usage, increased breakage & water penetration, and the potential of the brick having a thinner face shell.
MCAA would like to thank everyone who got involved in the process and helped secure the definition of a solid brick. Through your membership in the MCAA, we are able to stay ahead of issues that matter to you the most.
