Monstropolis Build Spotlights Brick Exteriors, Decorative Masonry, And Fountain Walls

New aerial photos shared by bioreconstruct on X are giving construction watchers a clearer look at one of the most masonry-forward parts of Disney’s Monstropolis transformation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While the project includes major infrastructure work, the latest images put the spotlight on brick exteriors and decorative masonry features that are helping sell the land’s “unusual urban architecture” look.

Along Dark Avenue, scaffolding still surrounds several buildings that will connect the main courtyard to the Monsters, Inc. factory and a suspended door roller coaster. One of the biggest structures in the photos is The Glob Theater, formerly MuppetVision 3D, where exterior changes remain largely hidden behind scaffolding as the building transitions away from its previous theme. The brick clock tower element nearby is also visible in wider shots, standing out as a recognizable piece of the corridor’s streetscape.

At the former Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, which is being converted into Harryhausen’s Restaurant, the photos show ongoing façade modifications. Some upper sections now include light-colored trim and new architectural detailing. A curved portion of the building, featuring a row of windows, also shows decorative masonry work, with workers active around the scaffolded areas.

The courtyard itself is showing masonry-adjacent progress, too, particularly around the central fountain being built near The Glob Theater. The fountain sits roughly where the former Miss Piggy fountain was located, and earlier work documented an initial concrete pour followed by construction of octagonal walls that are now more defined in the latest images.

Elsewhere, the former Gonzo’s Royal Flush restrooms continue their makeover with monster-inspired details added to the brick exterior, including a yellow “TRY OUR CANS” sign above the entrance, plus a rooftop water tower and decorative trim. Nearby concrete foundations, low walls, and areas staged with reinforcing steel and wooden forms show more site work underway along the future route toward the coaster, which Disney says will be its first vertical lift and first suspended coaster.

Disney has said Monstropolis will open in phases beginning in 2027, and an opening timeframe has not been announced for the door coaster.
