Brick is making a bold, vertical statement on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
At 175 E. 82nd Street, installation of the building’s facade masonry has reached the penthouse levels as the 35-story, 492-foot-tall mixed-use tower continues to rise. The project, developed by Douglaston Development and built by Levine Builders, will deliver 73 luxury condominiums plus 3,200 square feet of retail, according to Urbanize New York.
The design by CetraRuddy leans hard into Roman brick, including ornamental brickwork at spandrels and along the building’s edges. The new tower replaces a seven-story brick building that previously held about 40 units. A twin of the demolished property remains next door, a reminder that even as New York pushes higher, brick continues to be part of the neighborhood’s long visual history, from older walk-ups to brand-new high-rises.
