Corium Brick Slips Specified For New David Lloyd Club In £16m Magrock Deal

Magrock has secured a £16 million deal to build a new David Lloyd Leisure health and fitness club, with construction due to start this month and completion expected next summer.

The club is planned as a full-service facility, including a premium gym with fitness technology, multiple studios, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a wellness and spa offering. The spa retreat is set to include a Himalayan Salt Sauna, a steam room, an ice cave, a plunge pool, a hydrotherapy pool, and an outdoor spa garden.

On the racquets side, the plans include two indoor multi-use courts, three tennis courts inside an enclosed air dome, six outdoor padel courts under a canopy, an outdoor multi-use games pitch, and an outdoor “Battle Box” exercise facility.

For mason contractors and facade crews watching material trends, the building envelope details stand out. The scheme, located within the Bunford Park development, has been designed with a steel frame supported by concrete pad foundations and wrapped in composite cladding panels. It also incorporates timber and Corium brick slips, which are intended to create the appearance of traditional masonry while delivering a contemporary architectural finish.

Richard Brewer, managing director at Magrock, said the project marks the contractor’s first job with David Lloyd Leisure and reflects an investment that will provide a “first-class health, fitness and wellness destination for the local community,” while also signaling Magrock’s interest in moving further into the leisure sector.
