Britt Stokes, Acme Brick’s Director of Marketing, Retires.

Words: Acme Brick

Fort Worth, Texas – After faithfully serving Acme Brick Company for 40 years, Britt has chosen to retire – although he will still be involved with Acme on various projects.

Britt began his career with Acme as staff photographer and through dedication and total involvement rose to the position of Director of Marketing in December of 2013.

Along the way, Britt’s commitment to Acme was recognized by Ed Watson, President and CEO, who said of Britt’s career, “His legacy at Acme is defined by innovation, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Britt exemplified Embracing Improvement immediately when he was hired back in 1985 as the Company’s photographer, with Acme Bricks' mission to build a photography department from the ground up.

In 1987, Britt once again demonstrated Embracing Improvement by renting time on an early Macintosh SE and teaching himself the newly introduced Aldus PageMaker software. Using his own photography, he designed Acme Brick’s first digitally produced brochure—focused on brick sculpture. It was the first brochure ever laid out digitally at Acme Brick, and its quality and relevance were so enduring that it remained in use for over 30 years. Shortly thereafter, Britt designed the Special Shapes brochure, which was also used for decades.

Britt’s passion to make Acme Brick a marketing leader did not stop there; he understood the importance of our Company’s reputation and how much Berkshire Hathaway emphasized it. He knew that we needed to monitor what people were saying about Acme Brick on the internet, and so he engaged with vendors to perpetually track social media commentary. “

One of Britt's most significant impacts was the transformation from conventional marketing (TV-radio-print-billboard) in the 80’s-90’s and early 2000’s to digital marketing. Britt was quick to recognize the impact that digital efforts were making on the marketing industry. He understood that the younger generation’s shopping behavior was different and that social media was playing a larger role in their buying decisions.

Britt has been active in industry organization work as well, serving the Brick Industry Association (BIA) since 2014 in both the Marketing Committee and most recently on the Sales-Marketing & Education Committee. He is the only individual in our industry to win the Volunteer of the Year Award twice from BIA, in 2015 and 2018. His dedication to the industry was recognized by BIA President and CEO Tricia Mauer, who said, “Britt’s dedication to the clay brick industry and his longstanding support of the Brick Industry Association have made a lasting impact. We wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement."

Britt has also served on the Texas Brick Council as Acme Bricks representative since 2021. Finally, he has served the Heartland Brick Region since 2018, serving as both Co-Chair and Chair.

Acme’s President and CEO Ed Watson concluded that, “Across four decades, Britt Stokes has brought energy, curiosity, creativity, and leadership to everything he has touched. His career reflects not only individual and team accomplishment, but a legacy of systems, standards, and people developed along the way. His contributions have strengthened Acme Brick’s brand, modernized its marketing operations, and positioned the company for continued success— it was due to these factors that Acme’s leadership honored Britt with Acme’s 2025 Presidents Award.”

Acme Brick Company has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. since 2000. For more information, visit www.brick.com.
