Cape Hatteras National Seashore says restoration work at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is making significant progress, with major construction and preservation milestones now complete.
In a press release, the National Park Service described the effort as a way to protect one of the nation’s most recognizable historic landmarks while supporting a better visitor experience for years to come. “Restoring the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse not only protects and preserves this iconic structure,” said David Hallac, superintendent of the National Parks of Eastern North Carolina. “It will also ensure more enjoyable and immersive visitor experiences for future generations.”
Even when a project is driven by tourism and public access, the work behind the scenes still looks like what contractors know best: planning, sequencing, and meeting preservation requirements without losing sight of safety and durability. For mason contractors and restoration crews, lighthouse and landmark projects also highlight a core reality of preservation work: you’re not just fixing a building, you’re protecting a community asset where quality, documentation, and long-term performance matter as much as the finished look.
Work is also planned for the coming year, according to the release.
