The Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Owner/Operator (AECO) industry is constantly searching for new methods for increasing efficiency and productivity. In the complex and dynamic environment of construction sites where critical decisions are constantly made, the decision-making process and its consequent performance can be improved by enhancing Situation Awareness (SA) through new digital technologies. In this presentation, current trends in information mobility and visualization will be discussed and future efforts in areas such as BIM-assisted Mobile Augmented Reality and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle sensing in construction sites will be introduced. Challenges and opportunities of the presented technological trends will also be discussed.

Dr. Javier Irizarry is an Assistant Professor in the School of Building Construction at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
