Report of the MCAA TEAM Awards Committee

Words: Elizabeth ApeldoornThis committee has held many meetings via Conference Call throughout the year. In these meetings, the following decisions and actions have occurred:

TEAM Awards

The 2012 TEAM Awards Banquet will be held in conjunction with the Midyear Meeting in September 2012 in Park City, UT. Entry forms were sent out on January 2, 2012 and these are available here. Entries are due on April 30, 2012. We are allowing projects that were entered in the 2010-2011 competition to be automatically enrolled in the 2012 competition, if they are still eligible and pay a reprocessing fee. Last year we received 73 entries. We were very pleased with the participation. We hope to have more participation in 2012’s competition as well.

In addition to this, we will be actively seeking sponsors for the 2012 TEAM Awards Banquet. If you are interested in being a sponsor of this event, please speak to any of the TEAM Awards committee members or a MCAA staff member. We depend on sponsorships for this event to be a success.

Masonry Hall of Fame

This year we were asked to create and implement the Masonry Hall of Fame. This award was created by the Mason Contractors Association of America to recognize and award those individuals who have dedicated their lives to the masonry industry. The criteria to be accepted into the Masonry Hall of Fame are as follows:
  1. Individuals must have had a major impact on the masonry industry, not necessarily with just the MCAA.
  2. Nominations must state the significant accomplishments of the individual nominee.
  3. Individuals must have been or be in the industry for a minimum of 25 years.
  4. Individuals cannot be a current executive office of the MCAA.
  5. Nominations are open to any MCAA member and masonry chapters.
  6. The following panel will conduct judging:
    1. Executive Officers (4)
    2. 1 Regional Vice President (rotated annually)
    3. 1 Committee Chair (rotated annually)
    4. 1 at large member (rotated annually)
    5. Executive Director
  7. Any nominee must receive 6 of the 8 eligible votes in order to be accepted into the Hall of Fame.
  8. Involvement in the industry is open. Nominees can be but are not limited to contractors, employees, instructors, architects, engineers, and association staff.
  9. Each recipient will receive one plaque. An identical plaque will be on display at the MCAA headquarters.
This prestigious award will be given each year at the annual convention. Each recipient will be given a plaque and an identical one will be displayed at the MCAA office.

Vision Awards

The Vision Awards celebrate school districts, universities, communities, and architects who have demonstrated outstanding use of masonry in their projects and incorporate masonry in their campuses, communities, and buildings. The 2012 Vision Awards will be awarded at the TEAM Awards Banquet will be held in conjunction with the Midyear Meeting in September 2012 in Park City, UT.

Year Ahead

The TEAM Awards Committee will continue to redevelop and revitalize the TEAM Awards and Vision Awards into successful competitions and awards ceremonies to promote the masonry industry and recognize award winning architects, general contractors, mason contractors, owners, and associate members.
