Report of the MCAA TEAM Awards Committee

Words: Elizabeth ApeldoornThe TEAM Awards Committee (formerly Excellence in Masonry) was formed and has held monthly meetings via Conference Call since the meeting at the 2010 MCAA Convention. In these meetings, the following decisions and actions have occurred:

Goal of TEAM Awards Committee

To plan and carry out a successful TEAM Awards competition and awards ceremony to promote the masonry industry and recognize award winning architects, general contractors, masonry contractors, owners, and associate members.

TEAM Awards Categories

There will be one TEAM Award winner selected for each of the following categories:
  • Education: K-12

  • Education: College/University

  • Landscape, Hardscape

  • Rehabilitation, Restoration

  • Government, Institutional

  • Industrial, Commercial

  • Block

  • LEED*

  • Residential: Single Family

  • Residential: Multi Family
* LEED qualified project or an equivalent qualification

Awards will be presented to the mason contractor, general contractor, architect, masonry supplier, and building owner.

TEAM Awards Judging

The judging of the TEAM Awards will be formed with the assistance of the Past Presidents. Judges may not have projects in this contest. We are grateful for their help in this process. Judging will be held in the beginning of October.

TEAM Awards Entries

Entry brochures for the contest have been mailed to members and are available on our website at www.masoncontractors.org/team. Details for project eligibility can be found in these brochures. Entries are due no later than August 27, 2010.

TEAM Awards Banquet Date and Location

The TEAM Awards Banquet will be held at the 2011 MCAA Convention at the World of Masonry in Las Vegas on January 17, 2011, the opening night of the Convention. This will be held at the Wynn Hotel.

Vision Awards

Awards will be given to architects, colleges/universities, communities, and school districts for their use of masonry design. The MCAA Board appropriately named these the Vision Awards.

Year Ahead

The TEAM Awards Committee will continue to redevelop and revitalize the TEAM Awards into a successful competition and awards ceremony to promote the masonry industry and recognize award winning architects, general contractors, masonry contractors, owners, and associate members. The Committee is committed to making this event a success for the MCAA.
