JLG Announces Strategic Partnership with XPO Logistics

Words: Diana GillispieJLG Industries, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company [NYSE:OSK] and a leading global manufacturer of aerial work platforms and telescopic material handlers, announced it entered a strategic partnership with XPO Logistics, a third-party logistics company, to manage JLG’s parts distribution operations, beginning in 2017, for the North American Aftermarket business.

XPO Logistics, a leading logistics provider, will operate two distribution centers for JLG: one in Las Vegas, supporting its West Coast business, and another in Atlanta, supporting its East Coast business, beginning in August 2017.

As a result of the partnership, JLG will close its Parts Distribution Center in Orrville, Ohio, by August 1, 2017.

This decision affects about 160 team members at the Orville PDC facility. The company anticipates the Orrville Parts Distribution Center operations will continue to operate fully staffed through the final transition date of August 1, 2017.

JLG Manufacturing operations and Engineering will continue to operate at the Orrville facility and will not be impacted by this change to the Parts Distribution Center.

“As part of our efforts to ensure long-term growth and sustainability within our Aftermarket business, JLG has conducted an overall assessment of its Aftermarket distribution strategy and network over the past six months,” said Frank Nerenhausen, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, JLG Industries. “We have determined that changes to our existing Parts Distribution model are necessary to enable future growth. We did not reach this decision lightly, and we are committed to helping our parts distribution employees in Orrville during this transition.” The company is providing over 10 months’ advance notice to affected team members to allow for an extended transition period as well as providing support and services needed as part of the transition.

After the transition is complete, having distribution centers located in Atlanta and Las Vegas will provide closer proximity to the majority of customer locations leading to reduced delivery times and improved customer service.
