Report of the MCAA South of 40 Committee

Mission Statement


The mission of the South of 40 is to provide members the opportunity to learn, to become more involved, and introduce a youthful voice into the masonry industry. We will accomplish this by fostering lasting relationships, encouraging new ideas, and educating the leaders of tomorrow with the objective of increasing the masonry market share and ensuring our industry is as solid as the products we promote.

Current South 40 Membership

South of 40 currently has 36 members consisting of masonry contractors and vendors in 24 states. We would like to welcome our newest member Matt Jollay.

2012 Focus Points

Throughout the year the South of 40 group has focused largely on promoting the education portion of our mission statement. The MCAA’s webinar series have been a terrific success this year with hundreds of people attending the webinars. We will continue to encourage our members to partake in these programs, as we understand that only by educating the leaders of tomorrow will we accomplish our objective. MCAA’s introduction of the annual pass for the webinars has our members very excited about the number of people this will attract. Additionally, the South of 40 members have been very interested in the development of BIM for masonry. We recognize the direction the construction industry is headed and Building Information Modeling is here to stay. If our industry wants to remain relevant and even become a leader in wall systems, we must make the investments now and our group is behind BIM 100%. The final focal point for our group has been reaching out to others in our industry to get and stay involved with the MCAA and the South of 40. We need new and creative ideas and have plenty of opportunities for young professionals to become more involved and help shape our industry for the future. We encourage each MCAA member to reach out to the key persons in your organization and discuss their involvement with our group.

This Year’s Fundraising Event

Our 3rd Annual South of 40 fundraising event is being held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM at El Segundo Sol in Las Vegas. This is a great opportunity to bring along your key staff members to mix it up with our group. Proceeds from this event will go to the MCAA Foundation, a 501(c)(3), and will be distributed to programs that help support masonry education and training.

South of 40 Mini Convention

The mini-convention will be held in Washington D.C. in mid-May again this year. We will be inviting several other young professional groups to take part from organizations like NCMA and the BIA. We are seeking committee volunteers to help plan this event.
