TMC News

Words: Dan KamysDue to a need to focus his efforts on his company, Ron Wickes resigned his post as President of the Texas Masonry Council (TMC). Jim Jones of Chemical Lime, Co. has accepted the TMC Board of Directors' nomination to fill the office of the President. Rob Barnes of Dee Brown, Inc., has been elected to fill the vacancy that Jones leaves as Secretary/Treasurer. The new officers will serve through September, when the TMC fiscal year ends and new officers will be elected.

On the education front, the TMC recently completed several workshops. The Texas A&M Masonry Workshop - a one-day program in the past that has been expanded to a four-week workshop - provided extensive learning for architect and engineering departments. Also, Masonry Days were held at the Texas A&M University at Kingsville and the University of Texas at Arlington.

The much publicized "Are You Building a School ... Or A Liability" guide has sold out, and another print run has been scheduled. Individual copies of this informative guide may be purchased on this website, in the Resource Catalog.

Last, but not least, the TMC Annual Convention will be held September 23-25 in San Antonio. Adding to the convention agenda is the Fastest Trowel competition for apprentices, the sixth annual Qualifying Masonry Skills Challenge for Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, and the Texas Golden Trowel Awards banquet.
