Belton City Council approved two facade grants totaling more than $35,000 to support exterior improvements for downtown businesses, including the Beltonian Theater and DesignHer MedSpa.
The Beltonian Theater, 219 E. Central Ave., will receive $25,000 toward an estimated $120,000 restoration project. According to plans presented to the council, the work includes replacing the theater’s marquee and storefront, removing non-historic stone veneer to expose decorative tiles, repairing stucco and plaster, and updating lighting and signage.
For crews bidding work like this, the scope highlights how downtown restoration can turn into detailed finish work fast. When a project involves removing added stone veneer to uncover original materials, it also means planning for careful demolition, surface protection, and repairs that keep the exposed decorative elements intact.
The city previously awarded the theater a $7,147 building life safety grant for interior improvements, the report stated.
DesignHer MedSpa, 310 E. Central Ave., will receive a $10,281.55 matching grant toward exterior painting, awning repairs, new lighting, a replacement storefront entrance, signage, and related exterior updates. The total project cost is estimated at about $20,563.
Along with the facade grants, the council also heard updates on city projects, including sidewalk improvements completed in July and continued construction on an East Central Avenue bridge replacement over Nolan Creek east of Interstate 35. The bridge project is expected to include a two-lane bridge with 5-foot sidewalks.
