Restoration work is continuing at the Barnstable County Superior Courthouse, with multiple phases now in motion ahead of additional construction work scheduled for November.
According to Barnstable County, hazardous material abatement and testing are underway, and all work is being performed by licensed specialists. For contractors working in or around older public buildings, that sequencing matters. Masonry work, access, and dust-producing tasks need to stay coordinated with abatement requirements so areas remain properly controlled and trades do not overlap in ways that slow the project down.
On the masonry side, crews are working on the courthouse’s historic 1925 section. Current activity includes brick and mortar cleaning and mortar joint grinding. The county also shared that highlighted areas on the building show brickwork that has not yet been treated and mortar joints where grinding is underway. On projects like this, tracking what’s been cleaned and what’s still untreated helps teams plan lifts, contain debris, and keep restoration work consistent across elevations.
Looking ahead, Barnstable County reports carpentry is scheduled to begin Nov. 2, 2026, followed by painting scheduled for Nov. 9, 2026. The county said it will continue to share updates as the restoration progresses.
