Denmark is sending 15 young professionals to Shanghai to represent the country at WorldSkills 2026, and bricklaying will be one of the trades on display.
According to the Embassy of Denmark in China, the international skills competition runs from 22 to 27 September and brings together competitors from around the world across a wide range of disciplines. The Danish team will compete in bricklaying, carpentry, cooking, and restaurant service.
For mason contractors and training programs, international competitions like WorldSkills are a clear reminder that bricklaying is a measurable craft, one that rewards consistency, planning, and attention to detail. When brickwork is judged alongside other trades on a global stage, it also puts added focus on how the next generation learns jobsite-ready skills, from fundamentals to finishing.
The Danish delegation includes experience, too. Seven of the 15 competitors have previously taken part in international skills competitions, including EuroSkills in Herning in 2025.
Denmark also has momentum from the previous WorldSkills competition in Lyon in 2024. Kristian Bak Hansen won gold in Wall and Floor Tiling, Birgitte Brunsgaard Jacobsen took bronze in Heavy Vehicle Technology, and Denmark placed 14th among 70 participating countries.
The Embassy of Denmark in China said it will follow the Danish team during the competition and share updates as WorldSkills approaches.
