Restoration work on the Bloomfield Children’s Library, a nearly century-old landmark at 90 Broad St., has entered its final phase, according to an update from the township. Officials said the project will be “substantially complete” by the end of November.
Work on the roof is leading the schedule. Crews are adding detailed brickwork on capstones and parapet walls, areas that take a beating from weather and often need careful repair on older buildings. The township said restoration of the exterior walls and windows is set to begin in 30 days.
For mason contractors and restoration crews, the township’s update also highlights two jobsite realities that come with occupied, public-facing projects. First, Bloomfield has a dust control protocol in place, coordinated with the project consultant. Second, the township engaged an environmental consultant to sample materials before removal so handling and disposal match the findings.
The renovation plan, announced last year, includes roof rehabilitation, window restoration, masonry and stone work, and woodwork and trim restoration. The township also listed site work, including the removal of some existing shrubs and trees near the library.
The library has remained open during construction, with access adjusted as needed to support safety and keep services running. Library Director Holly Belli said the work will protect the building’s integrity while supporting the children and families who use the library as a community hub.
