Street excavation for a gas line replacement in central Mestre, on via San Pio X, has revealed a 15th-century well and other historically significant features. The Soprintendenza, working with the municipality, ordered archaeological assessments by Bettinardi Cester Archaeologists under the scientific direction of Soprintendenza official Cecilia Rossi.

According to the team’s early reporting, the discoveries add new information for reconstructing how this part of the city developed from the 14th century through the 19th century. The work was commissioned by Italgas to clarify the chronology, extent, and function of the uncovered structures, while keeping disruption to the public works as limited as possible.
