TCAPS Lines Up Heavy Summer Construction Schedule, With Energy Upgrades And School Move

Traverse City Area Public Schools has a full slate of construction work scheduled for the summer, on top of the regular maintenance that happens when students are out of the buildings.

District officials describe this year’s plan as especially busy. Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Christine Thomas-Hlil said the construction schedule is “very heavy,” with two major efforts leading the list: ongoing energy upgrades, and the transition of Central Grade School into the Glenn Loomis building at 1009 Oak St.

For contractors, school work is all about the calendar. Summer schedules tighten everything, including access, deliveries, inspections, and closeout. When multiple projects run at the same time, trade coordination becomes the difference between a smooth turnover and a last-minute scramble.

For mason contractors who do work in school facilities, that coordination matters even more when scopes overlap. If masonry repairs, restoration, or exterior wall work is part of a campus plan, crews need clear phasing, confirmed access points, and a defined handoff with other trades so the building can be ready when staff and students return.
