Brick And Limestone Facade Starts Rising On The Lake Social Club In River North

Exterior brickwork is now underway at The Lake, a new social club taking shape at 205 W. Superior St. in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. The project has topped out at five stories, and crews have started installing masonry along the upper levels of the building.

From the street, the most noticeable work is above the cornice line, where the facade shifts into alternating sections of brick and limestone. Progress on the fourth floor is blocked by an outrigger platform, but third-story masonry is visible below it, offering a clear look at the building’s layout and the direction of the exterior finishes.

While the brickwork moves forward, the project’s paperwork is still active. Two permits for a pair of dumbwaiters were recently issued. The city has also processed revision permits tied to renovations inside the club, and another alteration is pending for the fourth floor. That filing calls for program and layout updates that include an additional guestroom, relocated storage areas, and an office conversion to storage, along with associated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection updates.

The design team includes Robert A.M. Stern Architects as design architect, with GREC Architects serving as architect of record. Bulley & Andrews is listed as the general contractor. A Crain’s Chicago Business report cited in the update says the developer, Topography Hospitality, plans to open the club this fall with multiple restaurants and cocktail lounges, a top-floor outdoor terrace, overnight guest rooms, and spa facilities.
