The International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) announces the winners of the 2011 Project Awards. Royal Floridian Resort, was chosen as the ICRI 2011 Project of the Year.

ICRI presented the award to ConTech Construction, LLC on October 13, 2011 at the ICRI 2011 Fall Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Royal Floridian Resort is a seven-story vacation resort that is a major economic driver in the small coastal town of Ormond Beach, Florida. Originally built in 1973, the building had received several alterations over the years, but the progressive deterioration casued by the harsh saltwater environment had never been addressed. Testing by the engineer uncovered severe corrosion of the structural steel support columns and beams under the north and south cantilevered ends of the building. In addition, water intrusion was causing deterioration inside the living areas. The extent f concrete deterioration was so severe that the balconies and walkways were completely removed and replaced with new concrete containing a corrosion-inhibiting admixture. The team also executed an architectural aesthetic makeover that transformed the worn-out, drab facility into a gorgeous, modern destination resort.

ICRI awarded eight 2011 Awards of Excellence. Detailed descriptions of the winning projects can be found in the November/December 2011 issue of the Concrete Repair Bulletin and at www.icri.org.
