The Brick-o-lator
A new fireplace concept, the Brick-o-lator, is a supplemental heating system entirely designed in brick. Scientifically constructed, the Brick-o-lator enables homeowners to turn down their major heating system or temporarily turn it off by redistributing air heated from the fireplace to all corners of a room. Warm air also can be introduced to another room close by through an additional insulated duct. The fireplace is marketed by the Brick Association of North Carolina, an association comprised of 20 member brick companies. For a brochure and more information, contact a local brick company or the Brick Association of North Carolina, P.O. Box 6305, Greensboro, NC 27405, (919) 273-5566.

Hi-Temp Flue Liners
For the past 17 years, only building and mason contractors in the Far West have been able to use Graystone Hi-Temp flue liners. Now contractors in 17 western states can benefit from this product. Graystone Block Co., Inc., 316 River Rd., Modesto, CA 95351, announced it has expanded its delivery service from California to as far east as Nebraska. Graystone liners are made of a special pumice and are available in 12 sizes. They weigh about 33% less than comparable clay liners and are said to cost 50% less.
Redy-Furd Block
Mason contractors faced with the problem of furring out concrete block walls may find a simple solution with Redy-Furd Block. The system features a specially designed, notched block that accepts a trapezoidal furring strip made of extruded, reclaimed polyethylene. Mortar is laid in the bed of the horizontal strip, which becomes an integral part of the wall. Once the strip is placed, it is locked in permanently and is said to be virtually indestructible. The strip will accept, and hold, a nail more readily than a wooden strip for placement of wall covering, and can be used for interior and exterior applications on both sides of the wall. The special block can be manufactured locally. For details, contact Redy-Furd Block, P.O. Box 6184, Marietta, GA 30065.
