Quality Craftsmanship
There is still a demand for quality craftsmanship by the nation's leading architectural firms. Proof of this is the Graduate Research Library at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Architects O'neal Ford and Associates, San Antonio, Texas, choose large massive brick panels supported by attractive arches to set the theme for this structure. Each panel has three arches highlighting it, and upon close examination one will find that there are three separate arches within each arch. The keystone pictured on the exterior is duplicated on the interior. The slender piece of material at the spring of each arch, upon which the soldiers rest, is a piece of slate. The interior of each of passageways is exposed face brick and the floor has a brick design with pebbled finish concrete poured between. The stone columns that set-off each brick panel are of Indiana Limestone, the same as the cornice and coping. General contractor was Dyer Construction Company, Dallas, Texas, with Dee Brown Masonry, Inc., MCAA Members, the masonry contractor. Craftsmen from Local No. 5, Dallas, Texas, did the work on this structure.
