Report of the MCAA South of 40 Committee

Words: Lindsey StringerAs Chairman of the MCAA South of 40 Committee, I submit the following report to the Board of Directors.

Since our inauguration meeting at the 2010 Annual Convention in Las Vegas, we have made vast strides in the progression of the Committee. We have held five conference call meetings, all in which South of 40 members showed excitement and leadership as we move forward with the planning and execution of many new tasks.

Chairman: Lindsey Stringer
Vice Chairman: Chris Sieto
Treasurer: Jon Davenport
Event Planning Committee: Chris Sieto, Karli Simmons, Darren Murray

Mission Statement

The Mission of the South of 40 Committee is to provide members the opportunity to learn, to become more involved, and introduce a youthful voice into the masonry industry. We will accomplish this by fostering lasting relationships, encouraging new ideas, and educating the leaders of tomorrow with the objective of increasing the masonry market share and ensuring our industry is as solid as the products we promote.

Fundraising Event 2011

The event planning committee has nailed down the necessary details of the event. The committee will begin pushing sponsorships and promoting the event in the coming weeks. See event details below and look for sponsorship information soon:

Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2011 (MCAA Annual Convention, Las Vegas)
Location: HOFBRAHAUS HOUSE (located across from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino)
Time: 7:00 PM

We will be looking to get the basic party details out to Hanley Wood in a “Save the Date” concept to be included in their earliest promotional pieces for the 2011 Convention. Similarly, the MCAA office will send out email blasts. Tickets will cost approximately $100 per ticket, but please note that this amount has not been confirmed.

Dollars raised will go towards the MCAA Foundation — a 501(C)3. We look to have one South of 40 Committee member sit on the Foundation Committee to help decide which efforts will be supported (i.e.: education, training, research, etc.). A key stipulation is that monies donated from the foundation cannot be spent on marketing, advertising, or legislation efforts

Importance of Education

We have initiated discussion on education topics the South of 40 Committee members would like to see the committee address. The annual fundraising event party will require much planning throughout the year, but we would like to tackle a few other areas as well. For example, we will pursue the options of setting up webinars and in-person seminars to learn more about what the Committee wants to know about (i.e.: business practices, project management, estimating, wall systems, etc.). Further information will follow and everyone is encouraged to continue to send ideas and thoughts.

New Business

Future topics of discussion by the South 40 Committee Members include:
Develop S40 webpage on the MCAA site
Recruit more S40 members
Recruitment for younger people to join the masonry field
