Building Information Modeling for Masonry: Opportunities for BIM in Mason Contracting
Provider: Mason Contractors Association of America
Discipline: General
Credits: 1.00
We invite all of our stakeholders, but especially mason contractors, to attend this free webinar. Contractor input is essential to the future success of BIM-M.
The Building Information Modeling for Masonry Initiative (BIM-M) has focused on a wide range of needs, from owners, to architects, to masonry suppliers. The current BIM-M Benchmark Project is focused on mason contractors and construction workflows. We will use a case study of a multi-story building project that includes interior concrete masonry walls and a complex brick veneer on metal stud backup with custom cast-stone accents to discuss:
- Establishment and documentation of mason contractor workflows that can take advantage of BIM
- BIM for the communication and clarification of masonry project requirements, with examples from cast stone shop drawings and CMU control joint placement
- Dimensional assessment of building frames and opportunities for BIM
- Masonry supply chains and opportunities for BIM
Speakers are BIM-M consultants from the School of Architecture and Building Construction at Georgia Institute of Technology including Russell Gentry, Associate Professor, a structural engineer and building materials researcher, and the BIM-M Project Manager for Georgia Tech; John Haymaker, Assistant Professor, the founder of Design Process Innovation - a company that provides advanced tools and consulting for the AEC industry, and the Project Manager for the BIM-M Benchmark project; and Bryan Lee, a Graduate Researcher on the BIM-M Benchmark project.
